Changing date into serial number

   Hello,

I have a big spss data.

At the data I have dates of 4 years in the format of dd-mmm-yyyy hh:mm:ss.

I would like to create a new variable that will be a serial number of the date.

For each date I have several rows.

For example:

I would like to change the 1-Jul-2010 into the value `1`

2-Jul-2010 into `2` etc.

How can I do that?

	Hi goocha, nice to hear from u.U must be knowing in pasw statistics 18.0/spss 18.0 we have an option under data/transform menu called date and time wizard.Using this option u can do a various calculations wrt date and time. I am sure that using that option u can get the part of the date and make it a separate varaible in the data editor. U can extract the part of the date variable for eg. u can extract only the day of the date variable or month of the date variable or the year of the date variable.I hope u will get it. bye.
